Stars Align Hat & Mittens set
I designed the Stars Align Hat and Mittens set in collaboration with Monica of UPNorth Yarns to promote The End AIDS Knitalongs (KAL) and Crochetalongs (CAL), which are a series of fundraisers created by Gary Knits Gary Rides to support AIDS and Lifecycle fundraising.
The goals of the KAL/CALS are (in order):
To have fun!
To get indie knit and crochet designers and dyers paid
To raise a bit of money for AIDS/Lifecycle

Stars Align Hat
The Stars Align Hat is made up of alternating rounds of star stitches that beautifully showcase a variegated colorway when paired with a contrasting solid, like this combination from UPNorth Yarns.
Finished hat circumference:
16 (17.25, 18.5, 19.75, 21, 22.25)” / 40 (43, 46, 49, 52, 55.5)cm; to fit baby (toddler, child/ teenager, adult, large adult).
To be worn with 0 - 2” / 0 - 5cm of positive ease or negative ease.
Needles: US 6 / 4.00mm or size to obtain gauge, in 16”/40cm circular and DPNs; and US 4 / 3.5mm, or 0.5mm smaller than gauge needle, in 16”/40cm circulars.
Notions: stitch marker, tapestry needle.
Gauge: 26 and 35 rnds sts = 4”/10cm over star stitch pattern.
Yarn: DK weight:
MC: 85 (90, 100, 110, 120, 130) yards / 78 (83, 92, 101, 110, 120) meters; and
CC: 70 (75, 82, 88, 95, 104) yards / 64 (69. 75, 81, 87, 96) meters.
Sample knit in: UP North Yarns 4-ply DK (100% superwash Merino; 246 yards / 100g) in Speckled Jewels (MC) and Morning Glories (CC).
